3 Ways to Show Up This Year

I’ve been thinking we all could use more of a personal touch this holiday season. With the necessary isolation that has interrupted a lot of our normal rhythms this year, it seems like we need more than ever to know that the people in our lives actually care.

When it comes to business communications, what could have looked like an invite to come share a bottle of wine at a holiday wine tasting, or a bonfire for all the families we’re connected to needs to be different this year. Since my business (sharing wine) is about as far as you can get from coldly commercial, I want to make sure that I find ways to show up to my friends in business.

I don’t pretend to be an expert, but one of the things I love most about LinkedIn is that it’s a place where we can all share what we’re doing in hope of helping each other out. I’ve gotten great ideas from others in this community.

So, here goes. My 3 Ways to Show Up This Year:

  1. Give Bigger: It’s not always about “stuff” this time of year. But there is something about receiving a really nice gift that really communicates your sincerity. So this year I’m giving away a 4-Bottle Wine Set to one of my customers who orders (or joins Wine Club) in November. This combines the fun of a contest with a big prize that someone gets to enjoy with their family this holiday season.
  2. Send Real Mail: I figure if I can’t show up on people’s doorsteps with a smile and holiday greeting, I want something physical to land in their hands to show them I care. I’ll include a printed, maskless smile (totally COVID approved), and tell them how I feel. Snail mail has gotten quicker (and smarter) than ever. This year I’m using Postable to help me verify everyone’s mailing addresses. They also make it super easy to create a beautiful card that communicates exactly what I want to say – and getting them addressed and mailed on time.
  3. Customized Buying: I may not be able to attend holiday parties or Friendsgiving dinners, but every one of my customers knows I will be happy to help them choose just the right wine for their holiday gatherings. Some of my customers ask me to pick their wines every month, or just reach out for fresh recommendations on special occasions. It may be a small thing, but this one-on-one care is part of showing up to help my customers find new joy for themselves, and have help when they’re choosing gifts for those friends who are always hard to buy for!

Let me know what your techniques are for showing up to your customers and clients this year. I can’t wait to hear what they are. And if you would like, you can Get My Holiday Card.

Oh, and if you’d like to be the one to Win the 4-Bottle Wine Set, message me and I’ll help you enter to win!
